Leo's Letter #32 // Start Up
Learning and applying lessons to startups
Hey, it’s great to have you.
This week has been CRAZY - good thing many of us have a shorter week coming up with Veteran’s Day.
I was debating not writing an issue this week because I didn’t write an analysis piece; however, I decided to keep up the writing. And what kept me creating content for this issue is what I’m already doing, thinking in these areas by tweeting about them.
In This Letter:
Mini-essay: Start Up
After Hour Projects Episode 10: Harry Moreno: What It’s Worth
This is an issue of Leo’s Letter, where we share actionable ideas on content, commerce, and culture.

After spending the past few months working on a few projects, I’ve realized that I still have a lot more to learn. And what better way to learn than to do so through one’s work?
This goes to say that I’m looking to make a switch from what I currently do. And in the spirit of building in public, I’m sharing it here - let’s go!
I came to this realization upon stretching myself too thin (again), but now I go in expecting that I will NOT be able to do any side projects when fully committing to a role where I aim to learn as much as I can. And that’s fine, since there’s the function of opportunity cost: we just can’t have it all.
But this begs the question of where to start. From Twitter’s reaction, it seems like I’ve found an answer.

Given that I don’t have a list of companies I just have to work at, I should be better off focusing on my current field of fintech. If I do join in a different field, it will be at an earlier-stage company in a more generalist role.
Now, where do I find these companies? Doing a bit of research, I came across a few sources. These are fine for later-stage companies, but in targeting Series C companies will take finer digging, something that will take time.
I’m just getting started and am already in a process due to something coming out of the blue so much more to come here!
After Hour Projects Episode 10: Harry Moreno: What It’s Worth
I have to credit the way of thinking about what you’re already doing to my friend Harry, who talks about running a meetup for solo founders (he’s one himself) in an episode of my (former) podcast, After Hour Projects.
Until Next Time
